School Lunches

Our school lunches are cooked on site by Mrs Wilson and they prove very popular with our children and staff!  There is a range of healthy options on our varied menu to suits all tastes, diets and needs.

Food Explorers

Every Food Explorer menu is made up of tasty dishes packed full of nutrients, with each meal offering Food Explorers at least 3 of their 5 a day.

Our theme days  offer lots of new flavours to explore and include competitions for pupils to win Food Explorer prizes.

Most of our schools will offer three choices of a Food Explorer hot main meal, including a vegetarian or vegan option, a selection of  pasta pots, jacket potatoes or a sandwich.

Every Food Explorer is offered vegetables, side salad, bread and drinking water with their main meal. For dessert, fresh fruit and yoghurt is offered as an alternative to the homemade dessert of the day.

Our menus…

Our menus are on a three-week cycle and change every six months; after the Easter holidays to our Spring/Summer menu and after October half-term to our Autumn/Winter menu.

Nutritional Information

To request the latest nutritional report, please contact the catering team.

Derbyshire County Council provides our school meals and they have put a great deal of time, effort and money into creating healthy menus and promoting the healthy choices to pupils.  They also want to provide parents with all the information they need about school dinners and they have developed a website where you can get further information – http://www.myschoollunch.co.uk/

ll medical diets are catered for and our Menu Development Officer creates specialist menus to ensure each child has a meal that meets their requirements. To apply for a medical diet you must have a referral from a medical professional and complete a “medical diet form” which can be obtained from your school.

All our menus meet the current Government nutritional standards.

The price for a school lunch is £3.25 and we believe this is excellent value for money! But remember that all children in Reception and Key Stage 1 are entitled to Universal Free School Meals.  School meals can be paid for on ParentPay.  https://www.parentpay.com/

Please note that sometimes our cooks have to make menu changes at short notice (for instance if there is a problem with food deliveries) but we aim to keep this to a minimum.

Income Based Free School Meals

For every child who qualifies for free meals due to family income or benefit levels, our school receives the maximum funding (approximately £1300) to support your child through something called the Pupil Premium. It is only available to schools if you apply and are eligible for income based free school meals. With Pupil Premium funding, schools can organise extra help and support for children.

Applying for free meals is very quick and easy so if you think you may qualify for free school meals, please still take the time to apply. Even though your child might be able to have a free meal anyway, our school needs the funding that comes from Income Based Free School Meals. To find out if you are eligible, please go to the Council’s website at www.derbyshire.gov.uk and search for ‘free school meals’. You are also welcome to contact the school office on 01433 630266.
